Busy Bees

Have you tried to get an ‘appointment’ with a mother lately? “Nope, Tuesday no good, Johnny is at swimming. No can do Thursdays, little Sarah is at playgroup/ballet/tennis/reading etc, etc...” The list of activities our children are participating in is about as long as the list of items needed for building the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Oh, and did you know that some of these little busy bees are not even three-years old yet?

Our children are so busy (and so are the mothers). There is also a lot of pressure on them these days to perform and achieve even from a very early age. The question is how do they keep going? God-given natural ‘toddler energy’ can only provide that much sustenance. Together with a balanced diet (which is more likely to be fed to Rover the Golden Retriever), supplements and vitamins have become an important part of a child’s daily energy intake. And rightly so. Studies have shown that children do not ingest the right amount of essential nutrients needed to keep them at optimum health. To help protect young bodies, anti-oxidants, selenium, copper, lycopene, Vitamin E and Vitamin C, beta-carotene and lutein (to name but a few) are needed. Support for healthy bones is vital. Getting the right amounts of calcium and other nutrients for strong and healthy bones is therefore necessary. Further, children need additional anti-oxidants for protection against environmental toxins.

So, busy moms and busy bees can benefit hugely from taking a proper multivitamin. If the results are measurable, even better!
